November 06, 2024 Friends of the Children New York Hosts Shiseido Foundation Delegation for Insightful Exchange on Child Development and Mentorship Friends of the Children New York (Friends New York) recently hosted a delegation from Japan’s Shiseido Child Foundation, Social Welfare Foundation, and other affiliated professionals for their annual international study tour. This yearly tour, which explores global best practices in advancing children’s well-being, brought the delegation to New York to learn about Friends New York’s pioneering initiatives in disrupting intergenerational poverty, fostering mentorship, and building collaborative support networks. Key Focus Areas and Discussions During the visit, the delegation—comprising social workers, psychologists, and foster care specialists—explored the social and historical context of poverty in New York and Friends New York’s methods for breaking the cycle through long-term mentorship. The agenda included focused discussions on several key topics: the Power of One initiative, mental health programs, and a distinctive two-generation approach that uplifts both Achievers and their families. Sharing Knowledge and Building Partnerships The visit also enabled Friends New York to showcase real-life case studies and the collaborative work with government agencies, private partners, and communities. The visiting delegation gained valuable insights into how Friends New York customizes its model to address critical challenges like mental health and family engagement. Since its founding in 1972, the Shiseido Child Foundation has supported programs that empower children to realize their full potential. These annual international visits provide fresh perspectives to integrate back in Japan, with Friends New York’s impactful approach serving as a powerful model for future efforts.
