Meet Hunter!

Learn About Hunter’s Honor Roll Moment

Meet Hunter, one of our bright first grade Achievers!

Hunter, a 7-year-old Achiever, struggled with behavioral issues in the classroom, which disrupted the learning environment. This not only affected his grades but also his relationships with teachers and peers. When Henry, his Friend, began working with him in September, they set to work on creating a plan for change.

Henry stepped in to provide consistent support through mentorship and additional practice in reading and math. Working with his teacher and mother, they devised a plan to address both his academic challenges and his behavioral issues.

Working with Hunter by building discipline and focus through interactive sessions and incentive-based learning, Henry continued to reinforce these lessons whether they were doing homework or playing basketball together.

As a result, Hunter's classroom behavior began to change within two weeks. By the time the second marking period arrived, Hunter received his first award of excellence. Since then, he has received two more and is officially on the academic honor roll.

Hunter’s improvement went beyond academics too. His self-esteem and outlook on school blossomed as he began to believe in his potential.

While facing these challenges, the bond between Henry and Hunter grew stronger. They celebrated every win together with trips to Chuck E. Cheese, the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, and the movies. Every outing became valuable opportunities for Henry to reinforce positive behaviors.

Hunter’s journey is a true testament to the power of mentorship and the impact of dedicated, professional support. With the help of caring mentors like Henry, we are closing the opportunity gap for children facing systemic challenges. Hunter's story shows that with the right guidance, every child can succeed.
