Bike Giveaway Event with the Bahati Foundation

Bahati

Friends of the Children New York recently partnered with the Bahati Foundation to host an inspiring event, "Pedal Power: Empowering Youth Through Cycling." Held at Marcus Garvey Park, this event coincided with the Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic and gave our Achievers the chance to learn how to ride and take a bike home!

With the support of Black Girls Do Bike: NYC, the Bahati Foundation then hosted an engaging bike clinic. This session provided crucial safety tips, riding techniques, and fun activities, ensuring that each participant left with not only a new bike but also the knowledge and confidence to ride safely.

The day’s activities culminated in a fun ride where our Achievers showcased their new skills. Participants had access to various stations including a bike balance area, riding obstacle course, and bike safety check area. Each child also received a medal of completion to celebrate their accomplishment.

Reflecting on the event, we are profoundly grateful to everyone involved. A huge thank you to the Bahati Foundation for partnering with us and providing this incredible experience for our Achievers! Also, another shoutout to Shanna LaMar, Friends of the Children National’s Chief Development Officer, for getting us in touch with the Bahati Foundation and keeping local chapters in mind when it comes to new connections. These collective efforts not only created lasting memories, but also promoted positive development for all of our Achievers present. We’re so excited to continue to create new opportunities like these to help them grow!
