January 22, 2025 Meet our Friend, Janita! Her Journey & Inspiring Commitment to Growth When Janita joined Friends of the Children New York, she brought a deep passion for making a difference in the lives of young people. Though she was nervous about starting a new chapter, she felt confident in the love and dedication she was ready to give her Achievers. “I was ready to learn and grow,” Janita shared. Janita credits the supportive and compassionate environment at Friends of the Children for inspiring her to work hard and give her all to her Achievers. She approaches mentorship as a journey of mutual growth and learning, striving to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the youth she serves.“I was ready to learn and grow,” Janita shared. “The support and love I see within Friends of the Children is encouraging and motivating—it’s what helps me keep going.” One of the Achievers Janita has the joy of mentoring is 6-year-old Rynuer. Despite the long distance to Queens, Janita eagerly looks forward to her time with Rynuer, describing her as “smart, kind, respectful, caring, and truly an angel.” Together, Janita and Rynuer have built a strong connection through activities that are as fun as they are meaningful. From library visits to school support, and even a memorable trips to Bath & Body Works to pick out hand sanitizers, Janita is always there to celebrate Rynuer’s interests and successes. “What I love most about being her mentor is seeing her grow and learn, becoming even more of the amazing person she already is,” Janita says. “Watching her thrive at school and in life fills me with pride.” Janita’s work with Rynuer exemplifies her approach to mentorship—rooted in patience, understanding, and a belief in every Achiever’s potential. Her dedication to fostering growth, building trust, and celebrating progress reminds us of the profound impact mentorship can have on a child’s life.
